Curtains

Curtains are a beautiful way to soften any space and they are practical too- blocking out harsh sun and providing privacy. There is nothing more stunning than the rhythmic soft folds of fabric in a curtain. They really are transformative.

I have been creative window furnishings in Newcastle and surrounding suburbs for many years. Measure and quotes are free of charge.

Many people baulk at custom curtains, though, because there really are quite a lot of “technical” questions to be answered:

  • I have weirdly shaped windows, can I even have curtains?
  • Should my curtains be lined and, if so, should the lining be separate?
  • How sheer do I want the fabric to be?
  • I love the look of linen but is it my best choice?
  • What kinds of heading styles are there apart from wave fold?
  • Do I match the curtain fabric to my wall colour?
  • What are my track/rod options and do they go on the wall or the ceiling?
  • In which direction should my curtains to stack?
  • What about hems? Where should they sit?
  • I think I want something different- what are my options?
  • How do I co-ordinate window furnishings across my whole home?

Things to Note:

  • Blinds can be attached inside the architrave of your window or to the wall above your window
  • Blinds can be motorised
  • Blinds come with cords but can be made with stainless steel chains which are safer around children and also rust resistant.

Blinds

Blinds are a practical window covering for functional spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and children’s bedrooms. If there is furniture under the window, then blinds are the best solution. They can also be layered with curtains to create a highly versatile, beautiful window dressing.

At Layered Home I offer several different types of blinds:

  • Blockout roller blinds- custom but with standard plain fabric choices
  • Sheer roller blinds- custom but with standard plain fabric choices
  • Bonded roller blinds- also blockout but you can choose any cotton fabric from my range (colours or prints)
  • Double roller blinds which feature a blockout and a sheer blind.
  • Roman blinds- can be lined or unlined and, in terms of fabric choices, offer huge scope from plains to stripes and florals.
  • Casual Fold Roman Blinds- these are unlined but with a softer, unstructured look
  • Woven Wooden Blinds- as romans although some weaves can be made as rollers. My woven wood blinds come from Peter Meyer Blinds and come in many different weave designs.
