My Story

I began my career in the design industry with a Bachelor Degree in Architecture and followed that up with a qualification in Interior Design. My design studies were sandwiched between a 10 year primary teaching career and two children but that is a whole other story!

Ever since I chose my Beatrix Potter bedroom wallpaper in the late 1970’s (and painted the family bathroom with blue and white stripes at the age of 12), I have been passionate about interior design. I read about it, dream about it, live and breathe it.

After many years in the industry, I have settled into a specialisation in interior textiles because my true love is fabrics. Working with fabrics and creating unique pieces for my clients is a great privilege and I bring all my technical knowledge to the table.

“I truly believe we should build more considered, bespoke homes and that the key to a successful home is creating spaces that are well organised and function efficiently but that are soft and filled with colour and pattern”.

FABRIC LIBRARY

Having moved out of my retail showroom at the end of 2023, the Layered Home fabric library and design studio is now running out of my home in Hamilton. I have built the fabric selection up over the last ten years. It is a curated selection of what I consider to be the best interior fabrics for Newcastle clients, with a focus on hard wearing but natural finishes in beautiful colours and the softest of handles:

  • Upholsteries
  • Stain resistant fabrics
  • Linen sheers for curtains
  • Linen blend sheers
  • Outdoor fabrics
  • Hand block prints
  • Woven prints
  • Pure linen
  • Boucle and wool
  • Leather and vinyl
  • Velvet
  • Embroideries

Things to Note:

  • I also carry a range of trims and wallpapers  from leading brands and can do special orders
  • You can order metreage of fabric and DIY, that’s totally fine.
  • You are very welcome to come and browse- just get in touch to organise a time.
  • When it comes to interior textiles, I can track down anything so if you saw a crazy tiger print cut velvet on Instagram, I can probably source it for you!
